A Cerec is a tooth coloured ceramic restoration which is suitable for crowns, inlays, on lays and veneers. The advantages of this system are that the restoration is manufactured at the chair side by the dentist, there are no impressions taken and it can be prepared, made and fitted in one visit. They are long lasting restorations which are superb cosmetically and have excellent function and wear. A Cerec is suitable for all areas of the mouth.
Once the tooth is prepared, the dentist uses a hand held scanner to scan an image of the tooth into the Cerec computer. The restoration is designed on screen and then the Cerec machine mills a colour matched solid ceramic block to the shape required. The Cerec is then cemented into position, the bite checked and then finally polished.
Eleven years ago Marek Skalka was one of the first dentists in Britain to have a Cerec machine and incorporate this technology into his treatment options. |
