FIVE ELEMENTS ACUPUNCTURE
The point of acupuncture
Acupuncture acts as both a treatment
and preventative medicine.
The aim of your individual diagnosis
and course of treatments is to get a picture of your whole health. We look for
the root of any current problems, as well as identify any potential areas of
weakness we can help to strengthen. This goes beyond the temporary alleviation
of your current symptoms.
Who has acupuncture?
Many people come for
acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or conditions. Others choose
acupuncture to maintain health, or just because they feel generally below par.
Acupuncture is considered safe for all ages and may of course be used alongside
conventional medicine.
Patients new to acupuncture
are often surprised as to the scope of the consultation and the sophistication
of the treatment.
What can it do for me?
Conditions commonly treated
fall into the following categories: eye, ear, nose and throat; circulatory;
gastrointestinal; gynaecological; genito-urinary; immune; musculo-skeletal;
neurological; respiratory; emotional and psychological; addiction. Many women
choose to have acupuncture throughout pregnancy and childbirth. In addition,
its increasingly used by couples dealing with problems of fertility or to support
IVF treatment.
What happens when I go for
treatment?
You will be asked about your
medical history, your current symptoms, any treatment you have received, and
aspects of your overall health including your diet, digestive system, sleeping
patterns, emotions etc.
The acupuncturist will feel
your pulses and conduct a simple physical examination. The acupuncture points
used are not always close to the part of the body where you experience the
problem.
The needles used are very
fine (about 2 human hairs' breadth), and people find the actual experience of
treatment relaxing.
Frequency and length of
treatment depends on your individual condition, though some change is usually
felt within five treatments.
